September 2025 Deanery Briefing ….. Anna Chaplaincy: Ageing well
How the Church responds to an ageing population
With the UK population now comprising more people over the age of 60 than under the age of 18, for the first time ever; what is the church saying about old age, both positively and negatively? How can we as Christians serve older people through the provision of good spiritual care, whilst combatting ageism and exclusion, and honouring the contribution of older people in our churches and communities?

The National Deaneries Network (NDN) is an open network of people interested in the work of Deaneries.
Our members include Lay Chairs, Treasurers, Secretaries, Area/Rural Deans, Archdeacons and the odd Bishop …
Membership is free and gives you access to our library of resources, including videos from previous conferences and briefings. We are keen to resource Dioceses and the National Church in their work with Deaneries – and give Deaneries a voice on the national stage.
Three members of the Steering Group are also elected members of General Synod, and many GS members are involved in some way. We have been engaged with consultations and raised our voice in debates.
Deanery Briefings have been running since the first COVID-19 lockdown and have been attended by over 2,000 people from 42 dioceses.
As a result of lockdowns our first national conference for five years was in May 2023. Videos and resources from the conference will be available shortly.
